Last night we had our company dinner and it was organised by us, the Marcomms Team, and it was a success. It was a crrraaazyyy day even before the hands of time hit the 11th hour. My two superiors were at loggerheads and I was caught in between, each using me to convey their anger at each other. Oh brother...
Anyway, we got things on track despite the craziness. I was in charge of the sponsored gifts and a few arrived on Friday morning and I had to scramble for help to get them wrapped. And we are not talking about small shoebox-sized items here. We are talking about Electric Ovens and DVD players that requires at least a few yards of wrapping paper to conceal. Anyway, we made do and things were ready to go. Then I had to tabulate the votes for a few awards we were presenting that night.
After loading all the gifts and what-nots into the van, I went ahead to Maju Palace with Nancy and Zamry first while Mec had to detour to HQ to pick up something. I had no idea how to get to Maju Junctiion and neither did Nancy but the old bat refuse to listen to me to ask the driver to wait for us but I argued and she acqueisced in the end. I called Zamry and he waited for us along the way and we wouldn't have gotten lost if Nancy were paying attention to the van and to me asking her to pay attention to the van ahead! Instead she was talking non-stop about the other superior and how angry she was... the whole range of anger and disgust spilled forth like a erupting volcano, so much so that when I directed her attention back to the van ahead, she followed the wrong van! I was like "Nancy! You have to follow that van! That one! That one! The one with DV on the side! Nancy!" Instead she was still talking and we missed the turning! Argh! I was so pissed at her. So we made our way to KL on our own, and it was raining and it was jammed! I had to call Zamry a few times for directionsl. Sheesh... That woman complains a lot and it was non-stop complaining all the way and when I'm on the phone trying to listen to Zamry's directions, she was yapping into my other ear where she thinks we should turn and all, and then she would say "Aiyah, not sure la... so long already I've not been here... last time when I was a reporter... blah blah BLAH!" In the end I had to shush my superior.
When we got to Maju Junction, she was like throwing a fit because I found out that the restaurant was on the fifth floor and she doesn't think her car can do the round-about up to the fifth floor parking. She wanted to unload all the heavy presents at the ground floor and then carry all that up, plus it was raining. It would've been impossible not to get drenched if we were to do that. In the end, she agreed it would be stupid since it was a harder course of action. Then later we also got lost in the parking basement coz she wouldn't follow the signs. By that time I was disoriented too! Finally I had to call Patrick, our company handyman who was already there, for directions! Long story short, we finally found our way up on our own.
So since we were there first, I got things ready. Set up everything and all that while the old bat just started complaning about how she doesn't feel like the Marcomms team because Mec didn't brief her earlier or give her more tasks to handle, all the while I was running aorund, getting things set up and ready for the Company Dinner.
I like Nancy but sometimes she's verrryyy trying. It really got on my nerves when she starts complaining about Mec and expect me to agree with her. I can't take sides! I have to work with both of them! Of course Mec has her faults as do we all, but at least she's efficient and she knows what she's doing. From Nancy, I feel as though I can't really depend on her for much. *sigh*
Long story short, everything was done and ready and I went to change into fresh clothes. People started arriving and Nancy helped me to register those people first.
I think the dinner was a success and it kinda galled that no one publicly acknowledge our hard work. William the COO thank every department except the Marcomms! What the hell? We bust our butts for the good of the company, so that everyone went home happy, and we don't even get a proper thank you from the bosses??! In the end, when everyone had gotten up to leave, only then our CEO remembered and thanked the Marcomms team, but I don't think anyone heard.
